Free Workshops and Demonstrations!
Come try out a new skill or craft! The free demonstrations have been scheduled throughout the day to make it possible for you to attend more than one.
Knitting and Crocheting
Continental Knitting
Most Americans learn to knit by “throwing” the
yarn with their right hands. Have you wondered what it would be like
to knit “the other way?” Take this opportunity to learn how to knit
in the “Continental” style, holding the yarn in your left hand.
You’ll get instruction and be able to try it out on the spot.
Seaming a Garment
Come learn the “Mattress Stitch,” one of the best ways to seam your sweaters together. This technique is done with a tapestry needle and yarn, and it produces a beautiful, invisible seam. You will have the opportunity to try your hand at this technique.
Hyperbolic crochet is the most fun you can have with a crochet hook. You won’t believe the amazing ‘constructions’ you can make with this simple, yet ingenious, technique. You’ll see examples and have the opportunity to try it out yourself.
Spinning
You’ll learn what steps need to be taken to prepare a fleece for spinning, including washing, combing, and carding. This will be a very informative session for both novices and experienced spinners. And those who wish may try hand carding.
Don’t have a spinning wheel? You can still produce your own yarn with a hand-held drop spindle. You’ll learn about several types of spindles and how they work, and you’ll be able to try your hand at producing yarn from fleece using this traditional method.
Rug Hooking
Rug Hooking Techniques
Have you admired hooked rugs and wanted to find out how they’re done. You’ll learn what tools, backings and fabric supplies are needed and best of all, you’ll be able to pick up a hook and try out traditional rug hooking.
Find out about this unique form of rug hooking. Worked from the back of the rug, this technique is easy to learn and produces beautiful results. Come see what’s involved and have the opportunity to try it out.
